ISSUE:
There is a growing pattern among some students of engaging in disruptive behavior without facing meaningful consequences. This lack of accountability sends the wrong message, that poor behavior is tolerated. If this mindset continues, it risks shaping young people into adults who are unprepared for the real-world consequences that inevitably follow irresponsible actions.
SOLUTION:
Reinforce a culture of accountability by implementing consistent and constructive disciplinary responses, suitable to the behavioral threat. Bad behavior shall not be tolerated, period. One idea would be to invite parents of disruptive students to observe classroom behavior firsthand. Another is to aid troublesome classrooms with additional staff where adult support may de-escalate disruptions. Discipline isn’t punishment. Its goal is to cause a change in behavior, which benefits all. Back to Basics.
